Abraham "Abe" F. Giesbrecht

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Abraham "Abe" F. Giesbrecht, who passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 81.

Abe was born on March 6, 1945, in Colony Menno, Chaco, Paraguay, to Jacob and Helena Giesbrecht, who predeceased him.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 59 years, Nela; his children, Haedy (Fred), Wendy (Chris), and Erwin (Corinne); his cherished grandchildren, Jesse (Laura), Destiny, Michelle (Damian), Kody, Carter (Denise), and Colten; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Maci. He is also lovingly remembered by his many siblings, extended family members, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Abe dedicated more than 50 years of his career to Versatile/Buhler Industries, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment. Outside of work, Abe found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Whether he was firing up the barbecue, daydreaming about fishing, tending to his yard, playing with his dogs, or playing his accordion, he brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. He had a lifelong love of polka music and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Abe never missed an opportunity to tell one of his famously terrible jokes, and somehow, they always managed to make everyone smile.

More than anything, Abe will be remembered for the love he had for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness, generosity, and sense of humour touched everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created.
