He is pre-deceased by his father Cornelius Nagtegaal, and son Daniel Nagtegaal.
Carl was born on January 8, 1963, in Winnipeg, MB. He was the fifth child of seven and always talked about how much fun and mischief him and his siblings would get into. Some of the many stories he used to tell us with a big grin on his face included daring a certain brother to drive his bike down the hill where he ended up stuck in the middle of the Red River on one occasion, and up a tree on another.
He met the love of his life, Laurie, in Edmonton, AB while working for Sinclair Supply. Dad always talked about the first time he saw her and how he was immediately drawn to her with her infectious smile and kind heart. They married on June 26, 1992, and moved back to Winnipeg, MB shortly after.
Some of our favorite childhood memories with Dad are him playing “The Big Loud One” (Beethoven’s Moonlit Sonata) before bedtime while we stomped around the living room, playing hockey with us at the rink by our home on Webster, and all our memories camping as a family. Dad always encouraged his kids to work hard in life and to keep God at the center of our lives.
Dad had many passions. He was so naturally talented at any sport he tried, whether it was hockey, football, golf, or racing. He was especially proud that his kids loved sports and never failed to cheer us on at every game he was able to attend. He excelled in playing the piano and was ecstatic when a few of us showed interest in it. One of his favorite things was when his kids would play piano or guitar and sing with him. He will be greatly missed.
