At the age of 96, Doris passed away at River Park Gardens on June 19, 2013.
Doris was born on August 11, 1916, the only daughter of Charles and Francis Ridley in Ashington, Northumberland, England. She came to Canada with her family in 1928 and returned to England with her father in 1937. Doris moved back to Canada in 1946 to be married in Minnedosa to Harvey John Walton. She and Harvey farmed at McAuley, Manitoba until 1956, when they moved to Virden where they lived until retiring to St. Vital in 1968. In 1988 they moved to the Appleton Estates apartments and in 1996 Harvey passed away after spending 7 years in Deer Lodge Centre. Doris has spent the last few years in Rosewood supportive housing and the River Park Garden nursing home.
Doris was a homemaker all her life who loved to bake, garden and knit. For many years she dressed dolls for the Christmas Cheer Board and she truly regretted when she could no longer knit due to the loss of her eyesight. She loved children and babysat her granddaughter for many years. In her later years as the last of her generation of Waltons and one of the last of the Ridleys, she was the aunt that many nieces and nephews kept in touch with to relive family stories. She truly enjoyed their phone calls and visits. Her daily ritual was to talk to her 97 year old sister in law, Helen Ridley, in Texas.
Doris was predeceased by her husband and four brothers; John, James, Dave and Dunc. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter and husband, Betty Ann and Jim Lear of Winnipeg and her granddaughter, Kimberly of Toronto and many nieces and nephews.
