Ed was born in Winnipeg and attended primary school in St. Vital. Later, Ed and his family moved to Transcona where he finished grade 12. Ed obtained a mechanical drafting degree from Red River College and began work for Centra Gas in 1979. Ed retired from Manitoba Hydro in 2008 after 33 years of service.
Ed lived in Anola, MB with his wife Kathy for just over 35 years. In 2014, Ed and BettyAnn settled in Dugald, MB where they enjoyed hosting many special family dinners. Ed always looked forward to the great times shared at driveway parties with their fun and caring neighbours. Ed's family stretches across Canada and he always looked forward to trips to Abbotsford, BC to visit with his siblings and visits with the Hadaller's across Manitoba and Ontario.
Ed was never fond of Manitoba winters and his winter getaways were one of the highlights of his life. Two of his fondest vacation memories were a family boat cruise in Greece (2009) and a beach vacation in Playa Del Carmen (2014). Another of Ed's greatest joys was spending time outdoors. He treasured his weekend excursions with Kathy, Harvey, Denise, Jean and John travelling to various campgrounds. Ed and Kathy cherished the years at Longbow where they fished and spent times with friends. Ed and BettyAnn spent nine seasons out at Cripple Creek Campground. They loved floating in the water during the day with a drink in hand and sitting together around evening fires with great friends and family.
Ed was a quiet man with a gentle spirit who liked to keep his life very organized and precise. He took great pride in his home, car and his appearance. He was a man of few words, but spent many hours journaling his life and recording important moments.
A very special thank you Dr. Walmsley and Diann, as well as the staff at the Selkirk Regional Hospital, specifically Dr. Gillette, Dr. Bunkowsky, Dr. Cynthia, Dr. Thiessen and all the caring staff on Med 1 and 2.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a date for Ed's Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
