It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon, who died peacefully at the age of 100. Born in Marwayne, Alberta on January 26, 1925, Gordon was one of ten children. As an infant, he contracted spinal meningitis, which left him profoundly deaf — a challenge that shaped, but never limited, his extraordinary life.
Gordon attended the Winnipeg School for the Deaf and later the Montreal School for the Deaf, where he met the love of his life, Eva. The two were married for 63 devoted years until Eva’s passing in 2008.
Deeply involved in the deaf community, Gordon played a key role in the establishment of the Deaf Centre in Winnipeg and served as president of the Manitoba Silent Sports Association. He worked in various jobs before finding long-term employment with the Winnipeg Postal Service, where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service.
Gordon’s legacy lives on through his children: daughter Jennifer (Alf), son Kevin (Terri), and foster son David (Theresea); grandchildren Ryan (Stephanie), Gavin (Kristin), Adam (Lucy), and Amy (David); and great-grandchildren Zachary, Annika, Tyler, Alyssa, Anders, Noah, Tristan, and Owen. He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald and Fergus.
Gordon will be remembered for his humour and playful spirit, and the warmth he shared with friends, family, and the many health care workers he charmed with his humour and kindness. He lived a life of resilience, community, and love — and he will be deeply missed. We would like to thank the staff at Pembina Place for their compassionate care.
There will be no service and a family graveside service will take place.
