Hartwig Gebhard Dreger

After having lived a long, rich, and fulfilling life, Hartwig passed away at the age of 93 at the Grace Hospital on the morning of Saturday, March 4, 2023.

He was predeceased by his brother Bernhard, and parents Gerhard and Wanda (nee Schulz). He will be missed dearly by his wife Emma of 68 years, sons Ron and Glen (Jennifer), and grandchildren Graham (Amber) and Vanessa.

Hartwig was born May 8, 1929 in Placischewo, Poland. He emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1948 and started working as a farm hand, where he saved enough money to help his parents purchase a small farm in Anola, MB in 1954. On November 20, 1954 he married the love of his life Emma (nee Zielke) and they were blessed with 2 boys in 1962 & 1968. From 1958 until well after his retirement he worked as a plumber, offering his skills and knowledge to many. His grandchildren kept him young in later years and he was able to share his love of camping and boating with them.

He had a generous and helping spirit. His love and support for his family were first and foremost in his life, and his devotion to the church and his faith kept him strong in difficult times.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chakraborty and the staff at the Grace Hospital for their support and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 13, 2023 at Green Acres Funeral Home at 10:00am, with viewing prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation.
