It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Hubert Guillaume David Gronenschild, on September 28, 2026, at the age of 85. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth Ann Gronenschild; his children, Heather Janzen (Dan Thera), Gail Munn (Greg), Sandra Lamoureux (Vincent), Sherry McLaren (Robert), and Shannon McCorry (Jim); his grandchildren, Kristal-lyn Phillips, Erika Gronenschild (Michael Touchette), David Gronenschild, Layna Berard (Geoff), Stephanie Jones, Whitley Janzen, Kayla Ducharme, Gareth Jones, Tanner Lamoureux (Michelline Hayma), Alyssa Ducharme, and Zachary Munn; and his great-grandchildren, Noah Touchette, Spencer Phillips, Connor Phillips, Malakhi Touchette, Aubrey Phillips, Claire Berard, Aaliyah Gronenschild, Hunter Jones, Henry Berard, Hayden Koziura, and Natalia Jones. He will also be missed by his sister, Elsie Gronenschild, and many other relatives and friends.
Hubert was predeceased by his parents, Gustave and Dorothy Gronenschild; his sisters, Dolores Brogden (Gordon) and Joyce Huston; and his granddaughter, Catherine (Katie) Jones.
Hubert grew up on his family’s grain farm in Glenboro, Manitoba. In the summer of 1960, he met Ruth at the Crosstown Café, a favourite gathering place for friends. They married in 1964 and raised five beautiful daughters. Throughout his life, Hubert was known as a hardworking man who would do anything for his family. He worked full time as a milkman for many years until retirement and spent weekends delivering food for a Chinese restaurant. Unable to sit still after retiring, he worked for several more years as a delivery driver for a denture clinic. When he retired completely, Hubert and Ruth left Winnipeg and settled in a cozy retirement community in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, where he spent the final years of his life.
Hubert was a true survivor, with an unyielding and stubborn resilience that helped him defy the odds. He developed emphysema earlier in life and endured a lengthy battle with COPD. Although he was later told that he did not have long to live, his fierce determination and the support of his family helped him reach the age of 85. Hubert died peacefully at home with his family by his side. A private family funeral service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, followed by a luncheon reception. The family would like to thank the Ste. Anne home-care nurses who helped care for Hubert at home thank you to Richer Fellowship Church for all your prayers and support.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to Hubert’s granddaughter Erika, whose dedicated care as a nurse allowed him to spend his final years in the comfort of his own home. Her selfless decision to put her own life on hold, together with the support of loving family members, made it possible for him to fulfil his final wish—to die peacefully at home
Rest in peace, our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. You will be forever missed.
Love you baby!
