Left to mourn her are her children Judith (Edward) Davies, Peter (Donna) Collins, daughter-in-laws Lynette and Norma Collins, grandchildren Carol (Bill), Kenneth, Brenda (Kerrie) and Cynthia and great grandson Tristan Boyer. Also, left to mourn are her sister-in-laws in Kingston, Ontario, Gladys Collins and Hazel Swerdfager (Collins) and numerous nieces, nephews and their extended families.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2008, sons Gordon and Robert, granddaughter Lisa Collins, her parents Robert and Isabella Alexander, as well as her siblings and their spouses.
Isobel was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Following her marriage to Gordon Collins in 1937, they moved to Montreal. They and their four children moved to Winnipeg in 1949 when Gordon became the manager of the downtown Kresges store. Isobel worked part time for the T. Eaton Company in the early 60’s. They joined the Bethany Baptist Church (later called Portage Avenue Baptist Church) and served the Lord faithfully there, until they were transferred to Toronto, where they joined the Royal York Baptist Church. Living in Toronto allowed Isobel to reconnect with her siblings and extended family members in that area.
Upon retirement, they moved to North Vancouver, where they enjoyed renewing relationships with friends from Montreal and Winnipeg who had moved to the greater Vancouver area earlier. Isobel loved the mountains. Even after they returned to Winnipeg in the 1980’s, she enjoyed returning to the Rocky Mountains to visit with their daughter Judy and her husband. Mom and Dad attended East Kildonan Baptist Church, River North Baptist Church and most recently Waverley Baptist Church, where Isobel developed many close friendships. She was often referred to as the “card lady” for the notes of encouragement she sent to those who were under the weather and/or going through a difficult time.
Isobel exuded the love of her Saviour, greeted others with a warm bright smile, was not shy about giving a big hug to those she sensed needed it and had the most delightful sense of humor.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and staff members at the Poseidon Care Centre at 70 Poseidon Bay in Winnipeg, MB. The family would like to thank the staff of the 5th floor for their loving care and compassion shown to both of our parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to Union Gospel Mission, Living Truth Ministries or Cancer Care Manitoba.
A private family funeral and interment was held at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Highway #1 East at Navin Road.
