It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jane (Cecile) Barske (nee Watson) at St. Boniface Hospital on August 26, 2025, at the age of 74.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband of 53 years Barry, and son Brent. She was predeceased by her daughter Beth (1999). She was survived by her sisters Donna and Louise, and predeceased by her sister Shirley and brother Tim.
Jane was well known for her outgoing personality and would make new friends wherever she went. She enjoyed cooking and baking up a storm while hosting many family gatherings including family reunions, holiday dinners and celebrations.
She started working at the University of Winnipeg print shop when she was 19 years old. She then continued her career at the university by taking on the role of secretary with the tech support department, this is where she first met her husband, (who also worked at the UofW) who happened to be a good friend of her boss. From there she transitioned to the Library, where she worked over the years under 3 different Chief Librarian’s. At the end of her career at the University of Winnipeg she took on a new role as Communications/ Records Manager. During her tenure at UofW the support staff became unionized, and she served as Board Rep with AESES (Association of Employees Supporting Education Services) working countless hours with various sub-committees. Jane retired in 2005 at the age of 55, but did not really leave the University of Winnipeg, as she became heavily involved with the UofW Retirees Association
In her retirement, she found a new passion for crafting including crocheting and cross stitching. She also had a love for gardening, so Barry had to build her a greenhouse.
In keeping with Jane’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm located at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery (Highway 1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg)
