~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jean-Marie, surrounded by family on Friday, February 25 2022, at Saint-Boniface Hospital, at the age of 85.
Jean-Marie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Françoise (née Bernard); his children: Patricia (Richard), Sylvie (Floyd), Martine (Romeo), and Laurent (Trisha); his grandchildren: Nicole, Crystal (Steve), Vannessa (Bryce), Jennifer, Henri, Micheline (Darryl), Paul, Genelle, and Nathaniel; great-grandchildren: Kristin, Brielle, Alexis, Jordan, Ty, and Scarlett.
Dad was born on December 13, 1936, in Hirson, Aisne, France and is predeceased by his parents Henri Eloy and Jeanette Jouniaux. In 1956 he joined the Algerian War and spent 28 months in combat. He and Mom married on July 18, 1959 and in July of 1969 immigrated to Canada, making the long journey by boat with three small children.
Dad worked most of his life in masonry and later as a custodian for the Bank of Canada until retirement. He would often look at a building and comment on the bricklayer’s craftmanship. During his stay at Saint Boniface Hospital he even commented on the bricks of the building he could see from his room.
He had a passion for stamp collecting, playing horseshoes and cribbage and he coached soccer in his younger days. He enjoyed watching hockey, his favourite team being the Montreal Canadiens, followed closely by the Winnipeg Jets.
A private family service will be held.
