On Saturday, April 28, 2018 our much loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was taken to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Leendert was born in Scheveningen, The Netherlands, immigrated to Homewood, Manitoba in January 1951 to be with his fiancée Jannie Kuik who had immigrated there with her family in July of 1950. Leendert and Jannie were married on November 17, 1951. They moved to Winnipeg in March 1952 where they raised the seven children they were blessed with: John (Audrey), Jack (Wilma), Joan, Grace (Pieter), Linda (Remmie), Lawrence (Marilyn), Elaine (George). They were also richly blessed with 35 grandchildren and 95 great grandchildren.
He was employed with Air Canada for three years as an instrument mechanic, worked for several years as an insurance agent; was then employed in 1959 by the Provincial Highway Department as a draftsman. In 1972 he became sales representative for Premier Printing until his retirement in 1990.
Service to God encompassed his life in family, church, work and leisure. Together with his wife, Jannie they were able to enjoy travelling to many places within North America and abroad. Through the years they also took great pleasure in gardening, fishing, and camping with their children and later their grandchildren. In all that Len did he was very meticulous and precise. In his retirement he took great pleasure in spending many hours building scale reproductions of ships.
As family we give thanks to God for the blessing of a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We are grateful for the loving care given by all the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home.
The service will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018, 1 p.m. at the Redeemer Canadian Reformed Church, 15 Bates Avenue.
For those who wish, a donation in his memory may be made to:
