Leona Edmée Chalmers (née Catellier) went to be with God on October 7, 2026.
Leona was born on September 25, 1935 and spent her early years on a farm near Dufrost, Manitoba as the youngest child of a large and boisterous family.
She studied nursing at St Boniface Hospital, and it was there that she met young Jim Chalmers, who would be her husband and companion through a marriage of nearly 70 years.
Her loss is deeply felt by her children: Anita (Ian) Hanna, Caroline Martinson, Michael (Debby) Chalmers, Kenneth Chalmers (Jen Imus), Mary Chalmers, and by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Leona was a woman of strong faith and profound convictions. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, occasionally taking a break from argument and discussion to enjoy a meal together. She was deeply committed to her community, especially the parish community at Christ the King, where she and Jim were founding members.
The family is deeply grateful to the many compassionate caregivers who worked to make her final days more comfortable.
The funeral will be at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Road on Tuesday, October 20th at 11:15 am. Reception to follow in Christ the King Hall.
“When what you are feeling is simply too deep for words, and nothing anyone does or says can provide you with the relief you need, God understands."
