It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Schoenherr on March 10, 2025, at the age of 84. Louise will be lovingly missed by her children Peter (Cathy), Martin (Michelle), and Julie (Glen), and grandchildren Patrick and Wolf, as well as her sister Dorothy, sisters-in-law Christine and Eva, and many nieces and nephews in Manitoba, Alberta and BC. She was predeceased by her parents John and Elsa Sharp, her husband Karl Schoenherr, and sister Joyce Shrimpton. A lifelong Winnipegger, Louise was known to many across the city as a teacher/librarian in the Winnipeg School Division, long-time member of the former Winnipeg Canoe Club, co-owner of bilingual children’s bookstore Page after/après Page, supporter of Winnipeg theatre, ballet and symphony, proud paddler with the Chemo Savvy dragon boat team, President of Breast Cancer Action Manitoba, and in her later years as a member of Friendship Force Manitoba. With her beloved Karl, she travelled Canada and the world and also hosted many international exchange students, who became part of our family. Louise's generosity and care for others was expressed through her hosting of many dinner parties, as well as BBQs in her beautiful garden. Louise will be remembered for her strongly independent and tenacious spirit, and her deep love of her family and friends.
A celebration of life will take place at 10:00am on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with private family internment at St Vital Cemetery to follow. Our deep gratitude to all the staff at Courtyards at Linden Pointe as well as JTRC Care Services for their dedicated support and compassion for Louise over the last year.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honour Louise’s memory by making a donation to Indspire- an organization that Louise supported to increase access to education for Indigenous youth- or by supporting a local independent bookstore
