It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maria Provenza at the age of 87 years. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 15th 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Maria leaves to cherish her memory, her son Paul (Carol), and grandson Nico, as well as her brother in-law Antonino Provenza, sister in-law Rosilia Rizzo, sister in-law, Maria Provenza, sister in-law Enza Provenza, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and daughter Rosa.
Maria was born on June 11th, 1936, in Capaci Sicily Italy, where she eventually married and later immigrated to Canada in 1957. Maria worked at various sewing factories but mostly enjoyed being a homemaker as she was able to spend time with both her kids and make sure they were well fed. Maria had a passion for cooking and would cherish the opportunity to cook for friends along with large family gatherings. Lasagna was one of her specialties and having all the families together enjoying her food, the home-made wine, laughing and enjoying life was one of her greatest joys.
Maria was so happy when her grandson was born, you would think she had won the lottery. This period of time and the years that followed were some of the best years of her life as her grandson meant the world to her. Maria will be sorely missed.
We would like to send a special thank you to all the staff at Bethania Mennonite Personal care Home, St. Boniface Hospital Emergency and 5E for the wonderful care they gave Mom.
