Marie Georgina Pich

Marie Georgina Pich (nee Vermette), a woman of boundless love, fierce loyalty, and unforgettable spirit, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on December 18, 1941, Marie lived a life dedicated to her family and her friends, and the community around her.

Marie was predeceased by her beloved parents Arthur Vermette (1967) and Adele Vermette (1993), as well as her cherished husband, Morris Pich, who passed away in 1989. Marie and Morris were married on February 28, 1959, and shared many beautiful years together. His employment took them to several different cities, but they ultimately settled long-term in Winnipeg, where they built a lifetime of memories.

Growing up attending Catholic schools, Marie was known in her youth as a remarkably tough and talented fastball player, a competitive drive that transitioned into a lifelong passion for sports. In addition to her love for baseball, she was an avid fan of playing and watching curling and rarely missed a match. Her love for the game made her the ultimate fan, but she saved her greatest energy for her own family. She was her children's and grandchildren's biggest supporter, attending every single game, tournament, and event possible. Anyone whoever sat near a sports field or rink knew Marie; she was undisputedly the loudest and most passionate cheerleader in the stands.

Her devotion to her family shone brightest in her role as a grandmother. Marie spent consecutive years personally caring for four of her grandchildren throughout their entire school journeys-from French Immersion preschool all the way to high school graduation. Every single year, every grade, and every teacher knew Marie. She was a constant, steady, and loving presence in their lives.

Marie had a deep love for gardening, but her true gift was her love for people. She would strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone nearby. To Marie, there was no such thing as a stranger; she made sure to make a friend out of everyone she met, always ensuring people felt welcome, seen, and valued.

In her later years, Marie moved in with her daughter Joanne and son-in-law Don, where she formed an inseparable, legendary bond with their dog, Jamaica Joe. Joe loved Marie fiercely and was intensely protective of her. Their souls were so deeply connected that Jamaica Joe joined Marie in heaven the very next morning passing away on August 24, 2026, to accompany her on her next journey and keep her safe forever.

Marie's legacy of love lives on through her three children: daughters Joanne (Don) and Terry (Guy), and son Russ (Cyndee). She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Chantal (Kyle), Michael (Caitlin) Celine (Jordan), Whitney (Fred), Natalie (Evan), Guy, Terra, Tyler (Trisha), Kyle (Kendra), Cole (Emily) and Taylor (Braden), as well as her 18 adored great-grandchildren.

In addition to her immediate family, Marie leaves behind her dear cousin and close friend, Florence. Marie deeply treasured their long talks, regular outings for lunch and shopping, fun sleepovers, and the peace of sharing Christmas Mass side by side.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marie's memory to a local animal shelter or rescue organization, honoring the beautiful bond she shared with Jamaica Joe, or to a youth sports charity of your choice to keep her passion for cheering on the kids alive.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday September 15th, at 10:00 am, at Green Acres Funeral Home.
