Ollie Prociuk was a warm and caring person. She frequently hosted family gatherings and was very welcoming to neighbors and friends. Ollie was hard working, whether it was part time jobs supporting the family, gardening, pickling, sewing, knitting or crocheting. And she was always generous with her time and talents.
She passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, five months short of her ninety-ninth birthday. God called her home to her eternal rest, where she was welcomed by all the family who had passed before her.
She was predeceased by husband John, daughter Sharon and son-in-law Larry, and son-in-law Edward, granddaughters Jennifer and Pamela, and all her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Linda, grandchildren Tara (Chris), Shayla (Greg), and Ryan (Sarah), and great grandchildren Tyler (fiancée Brianne), Erica, Shaun, Alexei, and Sophieanne.
Ollie was born in St. Norbert on September 11, 1926, the youngest of eight, to parents John and Sophia. At the age of 13, she was sent to board at St. Roch (St. Boniface Hospital). While there, she trained to be a practical nurse.
At the age of 18, she met the love of her life, John, at a local dance, and married him shortly after in 1945. They enjoyed going to Legion number nine, where they went almost every night to play shuffleboard, cards, and Bingo. They were married for 45 years until his passing. Ollie and John raised two daughters, Sharon and Linda, in their Elmwood home.
Family was important to her, including carrying on Ukrainian cultural traditions such as Ukrainian Christmas Eve with the 12 meatless dishes. Throughout her life she made countless homemade perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht and so much more. She started a Sunday supper tradition that continues to this day.
Ollie had a very large garden that she would share with family and friends. Her grandkids would often help her pick vegetables for dinners and for pickling.
She loved to travel, visiting many places throughout Canada, Europe, and “across the line” (ie. the US). She also loved music, whether singing or playing the spoons. Ollie also enjoyed attending the day club at Lions Place.
Funeral services will be on Saturday May 3rd at 10am at Green Acres Funeral Home, and will be live streamed as well.
