It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved father and Nonno, Pietro, on August 22, 2025. We find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited in heaven with our mother, Maria.
He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters Grazia and Gloria, sons-in-law Petr and John and his cherished granddaughters Alessia, Alena (Oliver) and Daniela(Andreas).
He was predeceased by his parents, Berardo and Maria Grazia, his brother Guerino, his sister Carmela and brother-in-law Dante, all in Italy.
Our father was born in the small town of San Giorgio, Teramo in the Abruzzo region of Italy. At a young age, he bravely set off alone for Rome to apprentice as a tailor. When his apprenticeship was over, he went to work in Switzerland.
He immigrated to Canada to marry the love of his life, Maria. Together, they worked hard to build a home full of love and warmth for our family. Our father was a tailor at Holt Renfrew for over 40 years. He was a master of his craft, meticulous with all his work. He made his own patterns and sewed many custom suits over the years for scores of happy clients in Winnipeg. Many of these clients became life long family friends.
In retirement, our parents spent many happy winters in their beloved Italy. They loved walking all over Rome, enjoying each other’s company. In Monterotondo, they spent wonderful times with their many family and friends.
At home in Winnipeg, our father loved watching soccer, listening to the news on La Rai and puttering in his backyard. His most treasured times however, were those spent with his beloved granddaughters. They were his pride and joy and they loved their Nonno so much. He loved attending their dance and piano recitals and school events. Dinners together around the kitchen table were always memorable with good food and happy times.
Papa was a kind and respectful man. Everyone he met knew that he was a true gentleman. It is impossible to put into words how much he meant to our family and how much we will miss him. We were truly blessed.
Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff of the Grace Hospital for taking wonderful care of our father.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 11:00 at Holy Angel Mausoleum, located at 1 Green Acres Lane, Navin Manitoba with Father Michael Savarimuthu officiating. A public viewing will begin at 10:30 and a reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Riposa in pace Caro Papa
