Rita (Verrier) Boulet

She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Raymond Boulet on November 12th, 2000, and by her parents Maria (Fisette) and Joseph Wilbrod Verrier, by her six sisters: Marguerite Laurin, Thérèse Richard, Alice Fournier, Yvonne Gosselin, Hélène Bédard, and Pauline Piché, and by her four brothers: Edmond, Eugène, Joe, and Paul Verrier, along with numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.

Rita will be sadly missed by her four children: Victor (Lise Brodeur), Agnès (Patrick/Pitou) Johnson, Joël, and Réal (Jacky Cremers), twelve grandchildren: Daniel, Stéphan, Christine, Mathieu, André, Joseph, Philipe, Brigitte, Leo, Ida, Amy and Armand, as well as ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, along with her three sisters Marie Duclos, Cécile Arnal and Claudette Bisson, her brother Pierre Verrier, and numerous sisters and brothers-in law, and her special friend Doreen.

Mom was born in Steinbach, MB, on November 10th, 1938, spending her childhood on the Verrier family dairy farm in La Broquerie, MB. She was the 10th girl of 15 children learning to milk cows, plowing the fields with a team of horses and even repairing a shingled roof at a young age. She was a hard working woman driving grain trucks and many other types of farm equipment. After moving to Winnipeg in her late teens, she worked in the kitchen for the St. Mary’s Academy and later at The Bay’s St. Vital restaurant.

After moving her young family to Lorette, MB in 1964, she became involved with the Catholic Women’s League, was a great caregiver for both Mémères Verrier and Boulet, and worked for Child and Family Services. She was a good mother, wife, and grandmother. She had great faith and believed in family prayers. She became a self-taught barber, hairdresser, seamstress, and did many crochet and embroidery projects and loved to cook and bake. She could turn any meal into a feast, and nothing ever went to waste. Wholesome foods and French-Canadian cuisine were her passion, including Saskatoon pie, tourtière and her famous deviled eggs to name a few. She always had a treat to offer all her guests. She was always well dressed, a meticulous homemaker and everything had its place. Mom loved country music, singing old tunes, dancing to a good polka or waltz with Dad, making jokes and enjoying her beer. She loved nature, birds, flowers, and houseplants. She observed the calendar moons to help predict the weather, good hunting and fishing, the best time for haircuts and when to plant the garden.

Anne, Bethesda and St. Boniface hospitals and ER staff, Dr. Paul deMoissac, Alyena Fredette, Dr. K. Zeid, Father Kevin Lereh Nkengfua, MSsCC, and all those who offered prayers, phone calls/texts or visited Mom in the hospital, bringing gifts, soup or dainties.

Catholic Funeral Mass to take place on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 am, with rosary at 10:30 am and eulogy to follow at the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette Parish in Lorette, MB with Father Armand Le Gal O.M.I. presiding.

RITA OLIVE BOULET (née Verrier)

C’est avec regret que nous, les enfants, annonçons le décès de notre chère maman, grand-mère, arrière-grand-mère et sœur, Rita Olive Boulet (née Verrier), l’après-midi du mardi 7 février 2023, à l’âge de 84 ans.

Elle fut précédée le 12 novembre 2000 par son époux bien-aimé, Raymond Boulet, après 41 ans de mariage, ainsi que par ses parents Maria (Fisette) et Joseph Wilbrod Verrier, par ses six sœurs : Marguerite Laurin, Thérèse Richard, Alice Fournier, Yvonne Gosselin, Hélène Bédard, et Pauline Piché, et par ses quatre frères: Edmond, Eugène, Joe, et Paul Verrier, et de nombreux beaux-frères et belles-sœurs.

Rita laisse dans le deuil ses quatre enfants : Victor (Lise Brodeur), Agnès (Patrick/Pitou) Johnson, Joël, et Réal (Jacky Cremers), douze petits enfants : Daniel, Stéphan, Christine, Mathieu, André, Joseph, Philipe, Brigitte, Leo, Ida, Amy et Armand, ainsi que dix arrière-petits-enfants, plusieurs neveux et nièces, ses trois sœurs Marie Duclos, Cécile Arnal et Claudette Bisson, son frère Pierre Verrier, de nombreux beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, et Doreen, son amie spéciale.

Mom est née à Steinbach, Manitoba, le 10 novembre 1938. Elle a passé son enfance sur la ferme laitière familiale à La Broquerie, Manitoba. Elle était la 10e fille de 15 enfants, apprenait à traire les vaches, labourait les champs avec un équipe de chevaux et même réparait le toit à un jeune âge. C’était une jeune femme qui travaillait bien fort, en conduisant des camions de grain et bien d’autres équipements de fermier. Après son déménagement à Winnipeg, elle a travaillé dans la cuisine à l’Académie Sainte-Marie et plus tard, au restaurant de la Baie à St-Vital.

Après avoir déménagé sa petite famille à Lorette, Manitoba, en 1964, Mom s’est impliquée avec la Ligue des femmes catholiques, s’est occupée des soins personnels des Mémères Verrier et Boulet, et a travaillé pour les Services d’enfants et de la famille. Elle était une bonne mère, épouse et grand-mère. Elle avait une grande foi et croyait fermement aux prières en famille. Elle est devenue coiffeuse et couturière, a réalisé de nombreux projets de crochet et de broderie et aimait faire de la cuisine. Elle pouvait transformer n'importe quel repas en un festin et rien n'était jamais gaspillé. Les aliments sains et la cuisine canadienne-française étaient sa passion, notamment la tarte aux Saskatoon, la tourtière et ses fameux deviled eggs, pour en nommer quelques-uns. La visite pouvait toujours s’attendre à un bon petit goûter chez elle. Mom était toujours bien habillée, une ménagère méticuleuse et tout était à sa place. Elle aimait la musique country, chantait des vieilles tunes, dansait souvent des bonnes polkas et des valses avec Dad, faisait des p’tites jokes et aimait bien sa bière. Elle aimait la nature, les oiseaux, les fleurs et les plantes d'intérieur. Elle observait les lunes du calendrier pour prédire le temps, les bonnes conditions de chasse et de pêche, les coupes de cheveux et le moment de planter le jardin.

Nous, les enfants, aimerions sincèrement remercier le personnel de la Villa Youville à Sainte-Anne, Manitoba, en particulier : Yann Boissonneault, Nicole Trudeau, Rita et Guy (Programme du jour), Sara Trudeau (Pavillon & personnel des soins à domicile), Sœur Irène Rioux. Aussi, un grand merci au personnel des urgences et des hôpitaux de Sainte-Anne, Bethesda et Saint-Boniface, ainsi que Dr. Paul deMoissac, Alyena Fredette, Dr. K. Zeid, Père Kevin Lereh Nkengfua MSsCC, et tous ceux qui ont offert des prières, des appels/textes ou qui ont visité Mom à l'hôpital, apportant des cadeaux, de la soupe ou des pâtisseries.

Les funérailles catholiques auront lieu le samedi 18 février 2023 à 11 h 00, avec un chapelet à 10 h 30, suivi d'un éloge funèbre, à la paroisse Notre-Dame-de-Lorette (Lorette, Manitoba), présidées par le Père Armand Le Gal O.M.I.
