Robert Gordon Engel

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Robert Engel, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 82 years of age.

Robert’s wife, Jean Engel, of 35 years of marriage, predeceased him on April 2, 2009. Left to cherish his memory are: his sisters Elevia Johnson and Diane Papendick (Alfred); his niece Andrea, nephew Cory, niece Monica Gates (Arlan) and grandniece Vanessa; his aunt Vangie Pangborn of Oakville, Ontario; and numerous cousins all over Canada and the United States. Also left to cherish his memory are: his stepson Roger Colpitts (June), grandchildren Troy Colpitts (May) and Shawn Colpitts, and great grandchildren Grayson and Gabriel; as well as his stepdaughter Esther Moquin, grandchildren Terry Moquin and Richard Moquin (Joy), and great grandchildren Stephanie, Sarah, Emily and David. His grandchild Glen Moquin predeceased him. Robert was predeceased by his father John Anton Engel and his mother Marie Anne Engel.

Robert was born in what was called a Nursing Station in Beausejour, Manitoba on September 3, 1943. Robert grew up on the family farm not far from Green Oak, Manitoba. He worked as an electrician’s helper for Wally Joba, then worked for Bernie Wolfe School as a janitor until his retirement. Robert enjoyed playing the accordion with his friends at weddings, anniversaries and care homes. Robert was known by others for his kindness and caring attitude. He very much loved and cared for his wife Jean. He enjoyed and loved his family.

We would like to thank all the nursing staff and doctors at Health Sciences Centre for all their care and kindness given to Robert, our brother.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1 Green Acres Lane, Winnipeg, MB.
