With his family by his side, Roger passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025 at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface.
He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife Laurette, his daughters Jan, Leah and Sheri (Michael), and his brother Marcel. Roger was predeceased by his daughter Annette, his parents Alphonse and Annette, his siblings Olive and Armande, as well as Laurette’s siblings Albert (Mariette), Robert (Denise), Yvette (George), and Jean (Caesar). He is survived by Laurette’s sister Jeannette (Denis), his grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Roger was born in St. Jean, Manitoba to Alphonse and Annette Godard. He spent a large part of his childhood on Uncle Nap’s farm. As a young man, Roger served in the Royal Canadian Navy, giving him the opportunity to travel the world. In 1979 Roger married Laurette and they moved into a brand-new home on Gosford Avenue. Together they shared many wonderful adventures and enjoyed a beautiful and fulfilling life.
Roger worked in commercial heating and air conditioning for most of his life spending his final years of work with Black and Macdonald. Here he developed many lasting friendships. Roger was a “jack of all trades” and master of many. He could fix just about anything, renovate a home, restore an automobile, upholster furniture and he could cook too! His homemade bread and sweet treats were family favourites. Roger’s love of old cars had him join the Manitoba Classic and Antique Car Club where he remained a member for many years. Roger was also extremely well read. He could carry an informed and intelligent conversation about almost any subject matter.
Roger and Laurette spent many years building and enjoying their cottage at Hillside beach. In their latter years, they volunteered at and attended the Barbara Mitchell Resource Centre. You always knew when Roger was around - his vivacious laughter would fill any room.
Heartfelt thanks go out to our dear friend Sheila Keys, the Roeland family, Sandra Carrette, and Jan’s friend Cindy Chatwell, who have been there for us during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the staff of Actionmarguerite and WRHA Homecare, particularly Kevin, for their attentive care.
Roger was a loving father and husband. He will be missed dearly and lovingly remembered forever.
Funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army - Southlands Community Church, 85 Keslar Road Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Roger’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Tin for the Critter Bin, or a charity of one’s choice.
