Sam will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his mother, Lianne (Garth); father, Mike (Diane); brother, Marcus (Natishia); nephews, Nakoa, Michael, Lucas, and Levi; and grandmother, Irene. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family—the Ewbank, Gowdar, Langhan, Mastroianni, and Paterson families—as well as the many friends he made throughout his life.
Sam was predeceased by his grandmother Carol, and his grandfather Mike.
As a child, Sam was a happy, bright, and sensitive boy. He cherished camping trips, beach days with his cousins, birthday parties, spaghetti dinners with Grandma Carol, and family gatherings with the Langhans. He loved family vacations to Mexico and Disney World.
In his youth, Sam was passionate about sports. He played hockey, baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. He was also a talented artist who found joy in drawing and playing his guitar. His eclectic taste in music reflected his unique personality.
As a teenager, Sam’s friendships meant everything to him. Many of those bonds began at General Vanier Elementary and continued through Windsor Park Collegiate. They were a mischievous, tight-knit group of boys.
Sam had a deep love for animals and cared for many over the years—including dogs, cats, birds, and fish. His most recent companion was his cat, Steve French.
Sam worked as a skilled tradesman and took great pride in his craft. He had the opportunity to work alongside his brother Marcus and, more recently, with his second cousins, Kevin and Kurtis. He was a jack-of-all-trades, skilled in commercial roofing, Hardy Panel, soffits, fascia, and eavestrough installation.
Sam shared a close bond with both of his parents. He and his dad enjoyed weekend breakfasts at Sal’s—Sam always ordered what Mike was having—as well as long walks with the dogs and working on home renovations. He loved having long, thoughtful conversations with his mom and enjoyed “power shopping” with Lianne for hats, shoes, and clothes. Sam always liked to look his best.
When Sam smiled, his eyes sparkled. When he laughed, it was contagious. And when he hugged, he held on tight.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sinoiki for his years of care and compassion, as well as Dr. Salter and the team at Riverview Health Centre, Ward 4, for the outstanding care Sam received.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home.
Letters to Our Son in Heaven
They say there is a reason,
They say time will heal;
neither time or reason,
will change the way we feel,
but in our hearts you are always there.
The gates of memories will never close,
we miss you more than anybody knows.
Love and miss you everyday.
Until we meet again,
Love Always and Forever.
