Terry was predeceased by her husband Albert, her parents Henri and Marie-Jeanne, and siblings Simone, Denise, Elizabeth, Adele, Hervé, Annette, Marguerite and Jeannine.
Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her sister Helen and brothers Roger (Marie) and Marcel; daughters Francine (Dave), Diane (Jim), Louise (Paul), Lucille (Michel) and Joanne (Scott); 9 grandchildren, Courtney, Camille (Alex), Brendan, Andrew (Keianna), Matthew, Lauren, Chanté, Evan and Thomas; 4 great-grandchildren, Kyra, Daxson, Aurora and Annika; many cousins, nieces and nephews and her long time neighbours.
Terry was born and raised in St. Boniface. She grew up in a family of 12 children and was always surrounded by crowds of kids. Their backyard was often the neighborhood gathering place. Her siblings were very important to her throughout her life.
Albert was a crane operator and had to go where the work was. The family lived in Thompson for a while but ultimately returned to Winnipeg. Albert continued to travel for extended periods and Terry stayed home looking after their young family and managing the household. They enjoyed a simple life where home and family were the primary focus.
Terry was an avid gardener. She had a large garden and loved growing pumpkins for the grandchildren. For many years she froze tomatoes and canned a variety of vegetables. Nothing made her happier than to serve fresh produce from the garden. She loved large family gatherings and providing a healthy meal was always her mission.
When the children were grown, Terry went to work. She was with Stats Canada for a while, where she enjoyed speaking with the people she surveyed. As a naturally caring person, Terry later found satisfying work as a Nurse’s Aide, first at Foyer Valade and then at Rosewood retirement home. When Albert was struggling with Alzheimer’s disease, her care significantly extended his time at home.
Terry loved animals and nature. Whether it was visiting the petting zoo with her great-grandchildren or walking around the duck pond at St. Vital Park, she was always thrilled to see the animals. Her birdfeeder was always full and she enjoyed her backyard birds, squirrels and bunnies. She routinely donned her floppy hat and headed out for a long evening walk. Terry would jump at any opportunity to take a stroll at the lake or in a park.
Terry was young at heart. While she was content at home, she was always ready to join in if someone suggested an adventure. From visiting a local market or summer fair, to a weekend trip to the Whiteshell or traveling afar to places like Singapore, New York and San Diego, she loved being surrounded by family, wherever that took her.
Terry was generous, gentle and kind. She will be missed by all that knew her.
