Vanessa will be remembered by many for her fun-loving, adventurous spirit and deeply caring nature. From a young age she always advocated for fairness, kindness, and being an empathetic listener. Her intelligence and elegant method of communicating inspired people she connected with, who often called her an old soul—indeed a beautiful soul.
Born January 21, 1992 in Melita, Manitoba, Vanessa spent her earliest years growing up on a farm 20 minutes outside of town. She had fond memories of horseback riding and playing with the barn kittens. Some of her memories were published as a second prize winner in the book ‘The Sky is the Limit’ circa 2006 by the Poetry Institute of Canada.
After graduating high school in Dauphin in 2010, Vanessa moved to Winnipeg and attended U of M to obtain her undergraduate degree in 2014, and then her masters degree in Physiotherapy, graduating in 2016.
Vanessa met the love of her life, Steuart, during her time in physio school. It was beautiful to witness the love and devotion they had for one another as they built their lives together, and on June 3, 2023 they were married.
As a dedicated physiotherapist, Vanessa supported and advocated for her patients at D’arcy Bain physiotherapy as well as at HSC in the Pain Clinic, outpatient, and acute care units. Being a part of these various healthcare teams throughout her career was a deep source of pride and purpose for her.
In addition to her passion for helping others Vanessa loved sports, particularly volleyball where she was a member of a high school MHSAA Provincial Championship title team in 2009. She continued to play rec volleyball regularly throughout her adult life and also enjoyed playing on a recreational slo-pitch team. Vanessa also loved snowboarding and was able to teach herself how to snowboard over the course of a winter.
One of her other passions was exploring the world through travel. Together with Steuart, she was thrilled to visit Maui, the Maritimes, tour Europe, Barbados, and Iceland. She also had a couple mother-daughter trips to the Grand Canyon and Dominican Republic, and travelled with a humanitarian group to Guatemala.
She enjoyed crafting and she especially loved to make scrapbooks of her adventures around the world. “Scrap-book” feels a bit simplistic though—they were actually works of art that functioned as a time capsule for some of her fondest memories and she delighted in sharing them with others.
Vanessa had a large social circle and one of her favorite ways to connect with people was through board games. While not overly competitive, Vanessa rarely lost once she knew how a game was played. Regardless of the outcome, a game almost always included Vanessa’s infectious laughter and a dose of her good natured humour. The more fun she was having the more she could be outright silly. She really enjoyed making people laugh.
In 2024, Vanessa began treatments for cancer. She was determined that the disease would not be a defining aspect of her life. By early 2025 she returned to work at HSC’s Pain Clinic, eventually shifting back to acute care in fall 2025.
She is survived by her beloved husband Steuart Reimer of Winnipeg, both parents Deb, and Ken (Heather), mother-in-law Kim, siblings Marty and Chaley (Jeff), sister-in-law Kacie, nephew Orest, grandmother Pauline, all of her aunts, uncles, cousins, and her fur-babies Max & Milo.
She was predeceased by her father-in-law Dave Reimer, grandmother Alice Voth, grandfathers Henry Voth and John Momotiuk, and her friend Brianne Brown.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, MB R3T5Y4, CA, on October 18, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
