Obituary of Anthony "Tony" Korte
Anthony E. 'Tony" Korte of Memphis, IN. passed away on May 8, 2024, with his wife Nancy, by his side. He was the son of Anthony and Minnie Mae Korte. He was born at home on the farm and sixth of nine children. Attending Memphis Grade School and Silver Creek High School. Enlisting under the buddy system with his friend, Dale Sheppard, he spent 6 years in the military. Spending 2 years of his overseas duty in Korea, and 13 months in Vietnam. He was with the 1" Battalion 40th Field Artillery, and supported the 3rd Marine Division while in Vietnam. In 1967, returning to the United States as a Staff Sargent, he decided to leave active duty. After returning home he started working for Clark County, The Powder Plant, Naval Ordnance, and Fort Knox in Kentucky. While at Fort Knox he was schooled in tanks at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Harford County, MD. Working his way up to Tank Artillery Leader. After 28 years he retired. He was a long time member of The VFW Post #3281 in New Albany, IN. and a member of The American Legion Post #204 in Sellersburg, IN. Spending time with his wife Nancy, of almost 38 years, they loved hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and traveling in their spare time. Time spent with his family, Brian, Lisa, and granddaughter Arianna, whom he was very proud and fond of. He is preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Minnie Mae Korte; his brothers John and Charles; his sisters Mary Klotz, Margaret Schaffer, and Elizabeth Korte; his brother-in-laws Larry Atkins, Jim Klotz, Ralph Claycamp Sr, Gary Netzer, Ken Netzer, Richard Netzer, and John Schaffer; his sister-in-law Ethel Korte, Amy Langlay, and Yvonne Netzer; his father-in-law Pete Netzer and mother-in-law Martha Morris along with step father-in-law Merle Morris. Anthony is survived by his wife Nancy; step children Brian and Lisa Van Hoff; granddaughter Arianna Hayden; brother Raymond (Trish) Korte; sister Helen Atkins and Alma Schneller; brother and sister in laws, Sandy (Roger) Lentz, Bruce (Jan) Netzer, Linda Netzer, Debi (Gene) Jenquine, Pat Jenquine and Dennis Netzer; and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to all at Baptist Floyd Hospital, Sellersburg Rehab, Hillcrest-Village, and UofL for all there care. Tony's visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150 on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM. His funeral service will be held at Kraft Funeral Service at 1:00pm on May 18th, 2024 with burial at St. Mary's of the Knobs to follow.
