Carol Gohmann Whelan, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of February 18th, 2025. A third-generation resident of Silver Hills in New Albany, Indiana, Carol spent her last days surrounded by the home and family memories she loved so much.
She graduated from Loretto High School, attended Nazareth College, and worked and produced style shows for Mandy's Sample Shop in New Albany, co-owned Torco Testing Services with her husband, was a member of the New Albany Country Club, and was a past president and member of Alpha Club.
Carol loved picnics, watching hummingbirds, making a new recipe, and a good game of Quiddler or Upwords, especially while traveling the world with her family. From the rivers of Europe to the palaces of St. Petersburg, Russia, West Baden to Ponte Vedra, South America to Switzerland, she relished them all.
Richard E. Whelan, her husband of 53 years, precedes her in death along with her parents, Thomas Vernia and Ethel Gerber Gohmann, sister Margaret Spoerri, and brother Martin T. Gohmann.
Carol is survived by her loving daughter, Laura Whelan Whitus (Tom), cousins, nieces, nephews, and a myriad of old and new friends.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Mary of the Annunciation.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana on February 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with her Funeral Service to be in the Kraft Chapel at 2:00 PM. A private entombment will be held at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
