Charles Donald Morgan, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Villas of Guerin Woods in Georgetown, Indiana. The son of the late Frank and Lenora Kerr Morgan, Charles was born August 2, 1932 in New Albany, Indiana. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1950 and soon entered the U.S. Air Force. During the Korean War, he was stationed in France, attended the military’s culinary school, and supported the food services squadron, where he honed his cooking skills. While overseas, he traveled throughout France and Switzerland on his prized, metallic silver, Indian Chief motorcycle. Upon returning home, he was employed at Falls City Brewing Co. as a logistics manager, and retired after 24 years. From 1975 until 2005, he was a pari-mutuel clerk at Louisville Downs and Churchill Downs, and proudly worked 30 consecutive Kentucky Derby’s. An amateur photographer and avid nature-lover, Charles enjoyed going for long walks and watching it rain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Frank Jr., Robert, and Thomas Morgan and dear friend, Timmie Williams.
He is survived by his children, Marilyn Nash (Gary), Paul Morgan (Michelle O’Brien), and Leslie M. Knable (Dan); the mother of his children, Vonda Stiller Morgan; grandchildren, Morgan Garrett Nash, Macauley Taylor Nash, Matthew Charles Morgan, Jackson Louis Morgan, Samuel Aiden Morgan, Leanna Jean Morgan, Isabella Rose Knable, and Louis Charles Knable; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3 pm ~ 8 pm Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:45 pm Monday at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 415 E. 8th Street, New Albany, Indiana with burial and military honors to follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, New Albany.
