Born February 8, 1965 in Trenton, New Jersey to Samuel S and Carol S Conte, the family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1968 where Chris grew up with his brothers and sister. Chris got the aviation bug from his father; who along with his brother Peter and mother Carol, all joined the Civil Air Patrol. Chris graduated Homestead High School in Fort Wayne in 1983 going on to attend the United States Air Force Academy graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering. He went to pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma after which he became a B-52 pilot stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. He deployed to Spain during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and flew 13 combat sorties. It was at Barksdale AFB that Chris met Mary Ann Giecek when she gave him a haircut. They were married on May 8, 1993, no one else has cut his hair since. Chris and Mary Ann left active duty and in 1998 moved to Sellersburg, Indiana where Chris was hired by United Parcel Service. He moved through the ranks flying many types of aircraft ultimately becoming a Boeing 747 captain. Chris was a loving husband and relished taking care of his wife who called him ‘Sweet Husband’ for his devoted attention to her. Together they had two sons, Seth and Saben both to whom Chris passed on the aviation bug. Seth is currently in Army Flight School and Saben is pursuing a degree in aviation at Southern Indiana University. Chris was a devout Christian beginning every day in prayer, reading devotionals, and studying the bible. He enjoyed sharing his faith and prayed with others often. He played guitar and shared this gift by playing music in church services.
