

Dorothy Jane (Hollen) Whitten, age 98-1/2, passed away peacefully at The Historic Villages of Silvercrest on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was born to the late Henry Earl and Mable (Haggard) Hollen on December 12, 1924, in Gibson County, Indiana. After graduating from Princeton High School in 1943 she went to work to support the war effort. In 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Martin Whitten, while he was serving in the United States Army. Together they had four children. Dorothy was a caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. Martin made the living and she made the home!
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Martin, of 74-1/2 years, grandson Jeff Johnson, and her siblings Margaret, Lucille, and Marletta. She was a member of Culbertson Baptist Church in New Albany.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Janie Estes (Johnnie), Becky Johnson (Gary), Cathy Cogswell (Tom), son Tim Whitten, grandchildren Chris Johnson (Jennifer), John Estes (Lexie), Scott Estes (Jennifer), Susan Eggleston (Cary), Sara Whitten, and Mari Kate Whitten plus great-grandchildren Gabe, Morgan, Charlotte, Jack, and Claire.
The family would like to thank the staff at Silvercrest for the loving care and support extended to Dorothy for the last nine years.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Home, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Monday, July 24. Her funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel with private entombment at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
