

Gloria Jean VanDyke, affectionately known to family and friends as “GVD” passed away on July 13, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a brave fight against Alzheimer’s disease. She was 77 years old. Born on April 20, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio. Gloria was a vibrant spirit who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Gloria began her career at the FBI in Washington, D.C., where she served as a fingerprint technician. During her tenure, she played a significant role in helping to identify one of American’s 10 most wanted criminals. She later worked at the Presbyterian Church Foundation, retiring in 2013 after many years of dedicated service.
In addition to her professional achievements, Gloria embraced a variety of interests throughout her life, exploring activities including belly dancing and obtaining her motorcycle license. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, crafting, shopping, and solving puzzles. Notably, she returned to college earning her associate’s degree in teaching and taught word processing at Ivy Tech.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Vandyke; her mother, Eva Sexton VanDyke and her great grandson, Coan Barger.
Gloria is survived by her children Melissa Morehouse (Rick), Lori Barger, and Mark Brisson (Lisa). She deeply cherished her grandchildren Todd Alexander, Jr., AJ Barger (Sarah), Brent Barger (Kali), Corey Brisson, and her great-grandchildren Layton Barger, Bo Barger, and has a baby girl Barger on the way. She was also survived by her brother, Gary VanDyke (Brenda) and her sister Beverly Sellars (Will), in addition to several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Gloria will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN 47150, followed by a memorial service at 7:00pm. Gloria will be laid to rest in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
Gloria will be deeply missed, but we will always cherish our memories and stories of our GVD.
