Herbert A. Lane, 74, former resident of New Albany, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Tuscon, Arizona. Herb had worked at G.E. in Louisville for many years. He served in the Navy Reserves with time on the USS Blanding; the 389th Military Detachment, 11th Special Forces Group, Airborne; Company C, 2nd Battalion, 11th Special Forces Group, Airborne; and Commander of the Imagery Department U.S. Army Military Intelligence School. He was mobilized to Special Operations Command South, Panama; Special Operations Command, Korea; and 1st Special Forces Group, Airborne, Ft. Lewis, Washington. Herb retired as a Major. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Iris Lane; brother, Frank Lane; and grandson, Tyler Ballard.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Miller Lane; children, Herbert A. Lane II (Jill), Sara Leslie (Jim), Catharine Patterson (Roger), and Andrew Lane (Jennifer); sister, Sally Edrington (Charles); 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10 am ~ 1 pm Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be celebrated at 1 pm Saturday, February 2, 2019, in the Kraft Spring Street Chapel with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, Indiana.
