Irvin G. Thomas Sr.

Irvin G. Thomas Sr., 94 years of age died Wednesday July 11, 2018. He was born August 1, 1923 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Ray J. and Florence (Cogswell) Thomas and was the widower of Betty J. Thomas his wife of 67 years. Irvin was a printer for some 50 years and retired from the Lipps National Printing Company in 1988 after 28 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II., a past commander of Bonnie Sloan Post #28 American Legion, past Vice commander of district #8 American Legion, member of V.F.W .Post #1693 and longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany. Irvin was a recipient of the U. of L. Gold Standard award for optimal aging and celebrated his patriotism proudly throughout his entire life. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and many friends. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four siblings Malcom, Ed, Stanley, and Evelyn. Survivors include eight children: Five sons; Irvin G. Jr. (Karen), John (Doreen), James (Connie), Patrick (Mary Anne), and Donald Thomas. Three daughters; Evelyn Arnold, Barbara Conrad (Keith), and Patricia Byerley (Ron). 24 grandchildren, 39 greatgrandchildren, and 20 great-greatgrandchildren. Visitation will be from: 11:00 am until 7:00 pm Sunday July 15th, and after 8:00 am Monday July 16th, at Kraft Funeral Service 708 E. Spring St. in New Albany. His Funeral Liturgy will be held 10:00 am Monday July 16th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany. Burial with Full Military Honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park 2776 Charlestown Rd. New Albany. Expressions of Sympathy to: Operation Comfort Warriors (through the American Legion).
