Antonio Sousa

Antonio Sousa, 77, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Maria da Luz (Correia) Sousa with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

Born in St. Michael Azores Portugal, a son of the late Manuel and Maria (de Rego) Sousa, he came to America in 1976. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

He served in the Portuguese Army and he later worked as a laborer in the construction industry and landscaping.

Antonio’s passion was working on his amazing yard and garden. His family cherish the memories of his beautiful lawn and budding flowers in the spring. He loved being with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Susana Travassos and her husband Victor of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Nicholas Lopes of New Bedford, Samantha Islam and her husband Saiful of New Bedford, and Alexander Travassos of FL; two great grandchildren, Grace Acevedo of New Bedford and Syon Islam of New Bedford; siblings, Francisco Sousa and his wife Maria of St. Michael, Gloria Camara and her husband Manuel of New Bedford, Trindade Vieira and her husband Gil of New Bedford, and Maria Vieira and her husband Antonio of St. Michael. He was the brother of the late Maria Medeiros.

His funeral will be Friday, October 25, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford.
