

Antonio V. Xavier, 86, of Acushnet, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Natalie (Cunha) Xavier, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Ribeira Quente, São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio and Deolinda (Vieira) Xavier. He spent his early years in the Azores before immigrating to the United States 62 years ago. A devout Catholic, Mr. Xavier was a faithful communicant of St. Francis Xavier Parish.
Mr. Xavier worked as a saw operator in the fishing industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, walking, and spending time outdoors. Above all, Antonio cherished his family—he loved his children unconditionally and found great joy in being surrounded by loved ones. His family will always remember him for his warmth, kindness, and exceptional cooking. He had a special place in his heart for his two great-nephews, Nolan and Davis whom he adored.
In addition to his devoted wife, Natalie, he is survived by his two children: William “Bill” Xavier and his companion Karen Dowler of Easton, and Anne Marie Xavier and her companion Daniel Cassidy of Dartmouth; his grandson, Joe Dowler; and his sisters, Gloria Vieira De Deus of Dartmouth and Maria Helena Alexander and her husband Jose of Acushnet; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Jose Cidade, and his brothers-in-law, Jose De Deus and Denis Cidade.
His funeral will be Friday, August 1, 2025 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Due to renovations being made to St. Francis Xavier Parish. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 p.m. For online tribute/directions: www.rock-funeralhome.com.
