Arthur E. Carreau, age 97, of New Bedford passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Saint Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alberta (Boucher) Carreau and the late Florida (Rock) Parent-Carreau with whom he shared over 30 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Edeas and Alma (Blouin) Carreau, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Arthur was employed as a Foreman for the City of New Bedford for 30 years, Sullivan-Foster, A.J. Martin and PACE after retirement. In his much younger years he worked for Civilian Conservation Corps. Arthur was a proud World War II Veteran in the United States Navy serving in both the European and Pacific Campaigns including the D-Day Invasion of France. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and working with his hands. Spending time with his family and grandchildren were very important. He will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by a son, Daniel Carreau; a daughter, Yvette Hammond and her husband Dennis of Acushnet; his grandchildren, Michelle Hamel and her husband Jason, Melissa Hammond, Michael Hamel, Andrew Hamel and his wife Elizabeth, Jonathan Hamel and his wife Marisa, Sarah Hamel, Peter Hamel, Ellen Hamel, Luke Arthur Hamel and Kathryn Hamel; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend Wendy Latour. He was the father of the late Maureen Baker and brother of the late Alice, William, Henry and Jeannette, and predeceased by his great-granddaughter Therese Elizabeth Hamel.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Luke’s Hospital and a very special thank you to Hospice for their care and compassion.
