Clifton H. Hathaway

Clifton H. “Cliff” Hathaway, 84, of New Bedford, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Mary (Anthony) Hathaway with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Clifton F. and Mildred E. (Lawrence) Hathaway, he and his wife wintered in Naples, Florida for many years.

He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1957 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corp attaining the rank of Lance Corporal.

Mr. Hathaway had worked as an insurance salesman and broker for Prudential Insurance for over 20 years, retiring in 1998. He previously worked for IDS Financial Planning. Following retirement, he worked for Rock Funeral Home as a Funeral Assistant.

Cliff was a Past Master of Wamsutta Lodge 30th New Bedford Masonic District and 32nd degree Mason, Past President of Southeastern Massachusetts Association of Life Underwriters, former member of the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce, WHALE and Fort Taber Museum, a member of the Acushnet Lions Club and Charter member of the Sassaquin Lions Club. Cliff was a corvette enthusiast, enjoyed taking drives, spending time at the beach and loved working in his yard tending to his flowers.

Surviving in addition to his wife Mary are his children, David C. Hathaway and wife Sabah of Ithaca, NY and Cheryl L. Waldron and husband Christian of Swansea; five grandchildren, Abiah, Kahlila, Tyler, Samaira and Amaan; a sister-in-law, Gloria Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William L. Hathaway and his sister, Diane M. Smith.

His Funeral will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 9am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 121 Mt.
