

David R. White, age 82, of Acushnet died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Boston surrounded by his loving family. He married his childhood sweetheart, June B. Dawson on June 1, 1952, and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage and love.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Raymond A. and Erma (Morse) White, David lived most of his life in the town of Acushnet, which was most dear to his heart. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1951 and the Lee Institute of Real Estate Brokerage. He also took courses in Bacteriology, testing and processing milk from Bristol County Agricultural School.
Mr. White was the Owner and Operator of the family business, White’s Farm Dairy, Inc. in Acushnet. He began managing the business in 1951, expanding the company to include White’s Family Fun & Sport Center for 20 years and Camp Tikvah, Inc to this day.
He was a charter member of the Acushnet Lions Club, where he served as District Governor 33S for Southern MA from 1982-1983 and President of the MA Lions Eye Research Fund in 1984. He was a member of the Acushnet Conservation Commission, a former Lieutenant of the Acushnet Long Plain Fire Dept., a former member of the Town Beach Committee, former Town Dog Officer, and member of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was also an active member and former trustee of the Long Plain United Methodist Church in Acushnet.
David was known for his love of children, living life to the fullest, and being a dedicated family man to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, and BFF, Clancy, he leaves 5 children: Debra White Stewart and her fiancé David M. Robbins of Marion; Ginger A. Miller and her husband James F.; Brenda L. Nicholas and her husband Thomas J.; David R. White Jr. and his wife Paula J. and Raymond A. White III and his wife Maribeth all of Acushnet. 14 Grandchildren: Mark, Tommy, Trevor, Branden, Todd, Ryan, Kalyn, Ian, Rhiannon, Shaun, Chynna, Evan, Garrett and Mariah; 13 Great-Grandchildren: Abel, Isabelle, Lilly, Benjamin, Jordan, Casey, Rylee, Haley, Aria, Elise, Taylor, Ryder and Charlet, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of June Clay of Westwood, MA, Nancy Fanning of Ormond Beach, FL, Donald W. White and his wife Joan of Acushnet and James R. White and his wife Katherine of Port St. Lucie, FL, the late Raymond A. White Jr. and the late Walter D. White who is married to Betty (Dawson) White of Rochester.
His Funeral will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 9:00 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford with a Service at 10:00 am in the Lunds Corner Congregational Church, 2195 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford followed by Burial in Long Plain Cemetery, Acushnet. Relatives and Friends invited. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm.
