George A. Carrancho, 68, of Dartmouth, MA, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in NH following injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was the husband of the late Madeleine (Gouveia) Carrancho.
Born in Gloucester, MA, son of Maria J. (Padre) Carrancho and the late Anthony S. Carrancho, he had been a longtime resident of New Bedford and Dartmouth.
Mr. Carrancho served in the United States Air Force from 1972 through 1979, attaining the rank of sergeant. Following his federal service, he also served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard until 1985.
He had worked as a maintenance mechanic & EMT for Response Ambulance for 20 years and more recently had been working for Bosal in Limerick, ME.
George was a member of the American Legion.
George loved the art of candle-making and formed Harbor Candle Company to pursue that interest, selling his candles and related products at various craft shows and online until he no longer had time to devote to the endeavor.
Survivors include a son, Anthony Carrancho of Riverside, RI; his mother, Maria J. (Padre) Carrancho of Gloucester, MA; a sister, Maria Lionor “Lee” Alatorre and her husband David of San Antonio, TX; a brother-in-law, James Gouveia of Dartmouth; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Darcy of Carver and Donna Marmaras and her husband Jeffrey of Berkley; and his close friends, Dennis and Kathy Freitas of Acushnet; several nieces and nephews; and two aunts, one uncle, and several cousins in Massachusetts and Texas. Son-in-law of the late Mary Gouveia and brother-in-law of the late Richard Darcy.
