James Medeiros, 87, of Taunton, formerly of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Our Lady’s Haven in Fairhaven. He was the husband of Bernice L. (Menard) Medeiros with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Pedro DeMedeiros and Francelina (Paiva) Medeiros, he was a resident of New Bedford before moving to Taunton 4 years ago.
Mr. Medeiros served in the United States Army during the Korean War attaining the rank of Corporal. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation (ROK), National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
He had worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in New Bedford until his retirement.
Jim traveled extensively with his wife after retirement. He enjoyed playing cards and trips to the casinos.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, James A. Medeiros, Phyllis G. Balestracci and her husband Paul and Bradford J. Medeiros and his husband Leonard Almeida; four grandchildren, Amy Ventura and her husband Rick, Michael Balestracci and his wife Eliza, Sarah Corbett and her husband Joseph and Ryan Medeiros and his fiancé Carrie Gagnon; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings, Manuel, Joseph, John and George Medeiros, Irene Wright and Odelia Nolan.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
