

James Motta, 97, of New Bedford, MA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 1, 2023. He was the husband of Helen Motta (Vertente), they were married for 38 years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Francisco and Rosa F. Motta and resided in New Bedford all his life. A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged from active service in 1952. Following his military service, he received a Bachelor of Science in Textile Chemistry from NB Institute of Textiles & Technology in 1956 and worked as a Textile Chemist for 34 years until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed camping with his family and line dancing with friends at the Acushnet Senior Center. He was a member of the Club Madeirense S.S. Sacramento along with his brothers Frank and Antonio.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah Ann Audette and a son, Kenneth James Motta. He is predeceased by his wife Helen and his five siblings, Manual Motta, Frank Motta, Antonio Motta, Mary C. Benoit, Ventura “Tut” Motta.
His family would like to extend its sincerest thanks to his caregivers and Community Nurse Home Care of Fairhaven, for their exceptional level of care through his passing days.
At his request, funeral services for James Motta will be private.
