Jane Britton

Mary Jane (Hathaway) Britton passed away on August 13, 2024. Known as Jane to her nearest and dearest, she was a source of constant mischief, understanding, and love. Always at least 20 minutes early to any event and getting underfoot at every opportunity, with a devilish smirk and “what-are-ya-gonna-do” shrug.

Her youthful mentality carried her through her life and made her a joy to be around. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at the Casey Miller apartments—especially Bernice. She loved going out to eat (breakfasts with S-I-L Mike)—any meal with family and friends. Loved her car rides. She was also an avid quilter and reader. She was a partner in crime to her grandchildren and a woman who enjoyed her time in this life.

Jane was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Walter A. Britton, Jr., brothers George Jr and Joseph Hathaway (wife Maureen) and sisters Lydia (husband Stephen Gonet) and Agnes. Sadly predeceased by her son David Britton and son-in-law Michael Levasseur.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Britton) Levasseur, daughter-in-law Jill (Miller) Britton, son Robert and daughter-in-law Michelle (McArdle) Britton. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Nicole, Amy, Ashley, Brett, Katie, and Emily; as well as grandsons-in-law Tim Manning, Eric Camara, and Nick Braga. Will be missed by her great-grandchildren—Arianna, Avangeline, Aubrey, Alivia, Fiona, Maxwell and Alissa. Nieces/nephews Jim, Tom, Carol, Maureen and Patti.

Jane lived since childhood in New Bedford.

A big thank you to her wonderful doctors, nurses, and all healthcare workers over the years.

Celebrate her life by going out to eat with your family and friends!

Her funeral will be Friday, August 16, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
