Lucie F. Ferreira

Lucie F. Ferreira, age 78, passed away April 3, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital, after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was a graduate of New Bedford High School and was employed at The Acushnet Company for over 30 years until her retirement. She had a great love of reading, often carrying a book in her bag. Lucie sang in numerous choirs over the years, and is remembered by friends, as having a beautiful voice. Always one to greet you with a smile, with a whistle that could be heard for blocks, and was the favorite Auntie to many, of her 24 nieces and nephews.

She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Adelaide (Souza) Ferreira. She is survived by her son, James E. Ferreira of New Bedford. Beloved grandsons, Joshua and Bryan Ferreira, also of New Bedford. Her brothers; Luiz Ferreira and Arthur Ferreira of New Bedford, Francis Ferreira and his wife Lil, of Rochester, MA. Her sisters; Hilda Gaboriault of Marshfield, MA and Eva Antil and her husband Roland, of E. Hartford, CT, and her sisters-in-law, Nancy Ferreira of Wilbraham, MA and Jackie Ferreira of New Bedford; and 24 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Manuel Ferreira and Ernest Ferreira. She also leaves behind, friends of many years, Jean Armstrong, Diane Rego, Gail Costa and Judy Cambra.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at Rock Funeral Home 1285 Ashley Blvd. New Bedford, MA on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 10am-12pm. A celebration of life service will follow visiting hours at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memorium, can be made to the Arthritis Foundation 29 Crafts St., Suite 450, Newton, MA 02458-1287.
