

Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Sherman M. and Norma E. (Barney) Palmer of Mt. Clemens, MI and the brother of the late Sharon (Palmer) Lacey.
He was employed by Sunbeam Bread in New Bedford as a driver-salesman for 36 years until his retirement in 2004. He then worked part-time for Tremblay Bus as a van driver for seven years. Prior to his working at Sunbeam Bread he was also employed at Peoples Super Market in Fairhaven and Mello’s Market in Lakeville.
He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 as a radiomen/cryptographer obtaining the rank of RM2 (E-5). He served at the US Submarine Base in Groton, CT and aboard the Submarine Tender USS Fulton (AS-11) and also at the US Submarine Force Atlantic Fleet Headquarters in Norfolk, VA. While aboard the Fulton he was instrumental in helping to save a fellow sailor’s life by helping to establish and maintain radio communications with a ship at sea, the USS Hazelwood, under extremely adverse weather conditions while doctors relayed medical information to medics aboard the Hazelwood. For that he received a letter of commendation.
Lynn was a 1960 graduate of St. Louis High School in Mt. Clemens, MI. He was a member of the US Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, DC, a member of AARP and a former member of the Lakeville Eagles. He was an avid Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox fan, especially the Patriots.
Survivors include his wife Lilian; two sons, Kevin Palmer and his wife Annette of Acushnet, Jeffrey Palmer of New Bedford; a daughter, Lori Palmer and her friend Keith Opozda of St. Helena Island, SC; three stepsons, Joseph Potvin and his wife Diane of Taunton, Mark of New Bedford and Michael of FL; five grandchildren, Kanin, Jessica, Kyle, Eric and Alex; four great grandchildren, Emilee, Allana, Hunter and Zachary; also nieces and nephews here and in Michigan.
The family would like to thank Hawthorn Medical Associates for the care he received through the years, especially Dr. Richard Reimer and Dr. Michael Rocha and their staff.
