Marjorie E. Almeida

With deep love and sadness, the family of Marjorie E. (Dutra) Almeida, lovingly known as “Vovee,” announces her passing on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the age of 98, at Care One in New Bedford. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Almeida, with whom she shared many cherished years.

Born in Acushnet, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Charles and Emily (King) Dutra and remained a lifelong resident of the area she loved so dearly.

Marjorie worked for many years as a solderer at Cornell Dubilier in New Bedford before retiring. Beyond her work, she was known for her warm heart, spirited personality, and unwavering devotion to her family. A proud and devoted member of V.F.W. Post 6643, she especially enjoyed playing cards, where her quick wit and competitive spirit earned her the affectionate nickname, “the card shark”.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — watching birds outside her window, caring for her beloved cat, Cokie, and most of all, spending precious time with her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure and spoke of with endless pride. Her love, laughter, strength, and sassiness will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Deborah Gaudreau and her husband, Paul; her cherished grandchildren, Marisha Wildrick and her husband, Jeffrey; Rachel Mendonca and her husband, Steven; Renee Alfaiate and her husband, Derek, all of Dartmouth; and Adam Boyer of New Bedford; as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Hunter, Tucker, Payton, Ava, Colin, Blake, Drew, and Bryce. She was also the loving mother of the late Martin Almeida.

Private arrangements are in the care of Rock Funeral Home. In honor of Marjorie’s compassionate spirit, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Her family will remember her always with love, gratitude, and the countless memories she gave so freely.
