Mark T. Young, age 63 of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was born in New Bedford and lived in the area his whole life. Mark was the son of the late Ellis and Beatrice T. (LaBonte) Young.
He attended Bristol Agricultural High School. Mark was a United States Navy Veteran and he served on the U.S.S. Holland. Mark worked for many years at Chamberlain Manufacturing Company in New Bedford. He also worked for 23 years for Tabor Academy in Marion, retiring in 2018. Mark worked in the Grounds Department and also operated the Zamboni at the Tabor Hockey Rink.
Mark was always very athletic and a great sportsman. He played in various softball leagues in the New Bedford area for many years. He also enjoyed playing Golf and Basketball. Most of all he was a highly rated Pool player. Mark played in various Pool leagues and tournaments throughout the area. He was a member of The Bay State APA Pool Association. Mark was a true Boston sports fan. He loved the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and the New England Patriots. But he was always a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan.
Mark is survived by his former wife Patricia (Belliveau) Young of Acushnet; his loving companion Michelle R. May of New Bedford; his son, Michael S. Young and his wife Kristy of Acushnet; three daughters, Melanie A. Young of Wareham, Jessica L. Coimbra and her husband Brian of New Bedford and Nicole Young of New Bedford; a brother Russell W. Young and his wife Elizabeth of Lakeville; a sister, Cheryl Pontes and her husband Robert of New Bedford, 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mark will be greatly missed by his dog Logan, his best friend Eric Kingsley and many many friends.
Mark’s visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. His Burial will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 10:00 AM at PINE GROVE CEMETERY, 1100 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
