Nelson John Camara

Nelson “Nelly” was born on January 22, 1985 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He grew up in the north end of New Bedford where he made many of his lifelong friends. As a kid, he was always moving and ready to play whatever sports he could coax everyone into playing. He was an excellent basketball player with a knack for hitting 3’s and being extra competitive.

Nelson was one of the first of his friends to get his license and would take everybody on countless rides to places around the city. One of his prized possessions was his black Mazda 626 with 18 inch rims. He would meticulously clean that car like it was his second job. If you knew Nelly, you remember taking a ride in that car and listening to 2pac on repeat. He also enjoyed hanging out in the neighborhood, “Welby”, throwing hotel parties, playing pool, and foosball.

Nelson graduated from New Bedford High School and went on to work in construction. He most recently worked as a finish carpenter and took great pride in doing it.

He is survived by his girlfriend of 10 years, Barbara Wright. He was the son of Libby and Joao Camara and brother to Christopher Camara and Brian Camara. He also leaves behind two sisters in law and two nieces along with countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 9 A.M. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Fairhaven.
