Rita Thompson

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Joseph and Evangeline (Aguiar) Costa, she was a life-long resident of the area.

Mrs. Thompson was a Stitcher at Cape Cod Sportswear for many years before retiring.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in New Bedford and enjoyed going out dancing.

Survivors include: daughter, Sandra McClellan and her husband David of Ogdensburg, New Jersey; son, William Thompson III and his wife Cynthia of Acushnet; three grandchildren, Melissa Billings and her husband Todd of Acushnet, William Thompson IV of Providence and Katherine McClellan of New Jersey; four sisters, Dolores Santos, Evangeline Morin, Patricia Silvia and Rebecca Camire; several nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Lilly Santos.

Her funeral will be held Friday, April 25, 2014 at 8:30 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her funeral mass at 9:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours, Thursday 3-6 PM.
