William Roland Dugas

William R. Dugas , 84, of New Bedford , passed away on Thursday , January 29, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Linda (Aldrich) Dugas with whom he shared over 62 years of loving marriage.

Bill was born in New Bedford , the middle son of the late Romeo and Florence ( Descheneaux ) Dugas . He was a life long city resident and a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School . He was employed as a lineman by Commonwealth Electric now known as Eversource .

Bill loved his family, especially his granddaughters Jamie and Rena whom he and Linda raised from five weeks old. He was a devoted family man known for his strong, gentle, quiet nature. He loved his home, Andrea Bocelli’s music, strawberry ice cream, and the many rabbits he hand- fed in his backyard .

In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by his beloved son, James Dugas, his granddaughters Jamie and Rena Dugas , his beloved nieces Amy Ashworth Solomon, Jill Ashworth Valadao , and their mother Jean Ashworth, a much cherished family member , his dear nieces Katie and Emma Dury , as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins , and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Roger Dugas and Gerald Dugas .

Bill’s family wishes to thank Dr. Dirican , the nurses and staff at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth for their loving and exceptional care during Bill’s illness. They are wonderful examples of God's work.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Bill's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 27, 2026 at 10:00AM in St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd, New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be held at later date.
