He was born on August 20, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Louis Daniel Curtis Sr. and Ellen V. (Woodrum) Curtis. Louis married the love of his life, Deanna Adkins, on August 20, 1970, in Loami, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2025, and their marriage of more than five decades remained a source of pride and devotion throughout his life.
Louis proudly served his country as a United States Navy veteran, where he worked as a Fireman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. After completing his military service, he worked in a production role at Allis-Chalmers / Fiat-Allis before beginning a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service. He devoted over 35 years to the Postal Service and retired after decades of faithful service.
Louis served as a volunteer with the New Berlin Fire Dept for 22 years and New Berlin EMS for 46 years.
In his free time, Louis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed fishing whenever he had the chance, watching wrestling, and spending hours tinkering in his garage, where he could often be found fixing or working on a project. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his family and took great pride in being present for family gatherings, milestones, and everyday moments. His steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna Curtis; his parents; and two brothers, John Edward Curtis and Gary Lee Curtis.
Louis is survived by his two daughters, Shelly Stephens (Curt) and Pam Harden (partner, Tim Hermes), both of New Berlin; four cherished grandchildren, Austin Stephens, Ashley Stephens, Greg Harden, and Erika Harden; a dearly loved great-grandchild, Ryder Syrcle; and his siblings, James Curtis (Jeanne) of Florida, Donna Ray Oglesby (Bill) of Florida, and Sharon Marie Feagans.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Berlin–Island Grove Firefighters & EMS Squad.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home-New Berlin, 714 E. Gibson Street, New Berlin, Illinois.
