A native of Chicago, Illinois, Al’s first career was with the U.S. Navy, from which he retired after a 23-year career that took him from seaman recruit to commissioned officer. Shortly after his naval retirement, Al enjoyed a career with the Washington Post Company, eventually becoming Director of Purchasing.
After his move to River Bend in 1991, Al maintained an active retirement, serving the River Bend community as a councilman and member of the Public Works Advisory Board. He also served as the president of numerous community groups. Al enjoyed golf, dancing, bridge and travel.
Al’s immediate survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Emily; children Louise Otto Myers (Charles Myers), Albert C. Otto, III (Lauren), Brian L. Otto (Amy), five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26 at Cotten Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
