

Logan was born in Richmond, Virginia, on April 1, 1926. He was 88 years old. He attended Richmond College for two years before joining the U.S. Navy Air Corps, and transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for Pre-Flight school. After WWII ended, he returned to Chapel Hill to finish college. Thereafter he worked for New York Life Insurance for many years, being a successful salesman, financial consultant and community leader in Greensboro, NC. He enjoyed sports, shooting, skeet, travel, photography, computers, bowling, and collecting vintage movies and music. Dad’s proudest accomplishment was his work with the Shriners, becoming a Mystic Shrine and a Master of the Scottish Rite of the 32nd degree. Always a student, he earned his CLE in 1974 and CFC in 1983.
Logan was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Logan Steel and Virginia Hasker Steel, of Virginia and his sister Jean Doan Steel, of Florida.
Logan is survived by his wife, Barbara Hansen Steel, of Home Place, New Bern; his sister Harriet Steel Wills; his three sons George Logan Steel, John Griffith Steel, and Joseph Usher Steel; his daughter Virginia Steel Hubock; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Logan will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, New Bern, on Saturday, February 14, at 10:00 am. A reception at the church will follow.
